Scientific Name: Trachemys venusta venusta

Identification:  Carapace is oval, weakly-keeled, slightly serrated posterior rim and is olive to brown with many colorful circular markings on it. In the middle of each markng, there is a dark spot. The circular patterns are a mixture of yellow, orange and red. The plastron is hingeless; yellow to redish in color with a dark pattern that follows the seams. The head is green to olive brown with yellow stripes. The neck is marked with numerous stripes and a central chin stripe runs backwards and divides to form a Y-shaped marking; limbs have numerous narrow stripes.

Range: Trachemys venusta venusta is found in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico in the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz and Yucatan.

Diet: Belize Sliders do very well on pellets, veggies and some fruits, crickets, super worms and aquatic plants.

Other common names for this species are Meso-American Slider , Mexican Ornate Slider and Peacock Slider. This very colorful slider is very out going and hardy, and will brighten up any tank as a single turtle, as a member of a small group, or as part of a larger community tank.

All species of sliders are accomplished swimmers, even as fresh hatchlings, and require deep water.

Tropical Sliders are not able to handle the cooler temperatures of North America, especially in the northern states and Canada. It is not advised that sliders from the tropical regions be kept outside year-round because of the colder temps.
